J & S Seddon (Building) Limited clinch major Partnering Contract

with Keele University

J & S Seddon (Building) Limited with regional offices in Hawarden near Chester, and a subsidiary of the Seddon Group, headquartered in Stoke-on-Trent, have been successful in their bid for an innovative Partnering project with Keele University in Staffordshire worth £16 million.

The contract, which spans the next six years, is for the refurbishment of student bedrooms to modern day standards with an anticipated out-turn value of £16 million. Won against major competition under EEC and Partnering rules, the process took nine months to complete, and was the result of an intense selection process.

The partnering concept enables client, contractor and consultants to proceed through the construction route with a non-adversarial stance, relying on mutual trust and respect to complete the process. The emphasis is on teamwork with all parties working closely together to produce effective results in cost and quality.

J & S Seddon (Building) Limited Managing Director, Jim Blairs said: "It is very satisfying that the service produced by this company has been recognised with the reward of this major partnering project. The submission and adjudication process was quite intense but the benefits to both client and contractor will be shown to be substantial over the next six years.

"J & S Seddon (Building) Limited place great emphasis on the quality of its construction achieved through team efforts, which with its non-adversarial approach, has proved so successful over the past 104 years. We look forward to working very closely with Keele University and the Partnering Team to produce a successful project."

Work will start this Spring on the refurbishment of the student accommodation at Keele, one of Britain’s original "red brick" universities established in the Sixties. The length of contract provides welcome security for Seddon’s workforce, sub-contractors and suppliers.
